CEREC Restorations: Custom milled crowns in a day

CEREC (which is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) is a sophisticated CAD/CAM design for the production of all-ceramic inlays, onlays, partial crowns, veneers and crowns for anterior and posterior teeth. CEREC provides patients with what they want - less time in the dental chair and restorations that are the closest thing to having natural teeth.

Why are CEREC restorations preferred over conventional crowns?

*The patient's final restoration is ready the same day as their initial appointment. In select cases, the whole process may take as little as one hour, from start to finish.

*Highly esthetic restorations that mimic the patient's own natural teeth

*No need to have unpleasant impressions taken of the patient's teeth

*Patients only need to experience being numb once.

What is the CEREC process?

A CEREC restoration appointment begins the same as a conventional restoration appointment, with the patient being numbed and their tooth prepped. Next, a 3D measuring camera quickly scans the prepared tooth. After the scan is completed, the restoration is designed on the chairside computer and then the milling unit makes the restoration out of a solid ceramic block in just a few minutes. After the milling, the restoration is then bonded directly to the patient's remaining tooth structure and patients are sent home with their new tooth that very same day.
